Acting Up in Rye was formed in the Spring of 2013. It’s first production, “A Day of Reckoning”, a comedy by Pam Valentine, directed by Rowena Sterry, was staged at the Community Centre, which was decked out in bunting to create a village fete atmosphere, for two nights, to near full houses.

Our next production was a Revue entitled “Hocus Pocus” and supper, directed by Fiona Osborne, in the Community Centre on Friday October 11th 2013. The Community Centre was decorated with a Halloween, with bats, skeletons and other decorative effects, and the cast included a number of younger members, and it was nice to see so much budding talent.

This was followed by “The Volunteers”, a comedy set in a Charity Shop by Hilary Mackelden, directed by Tony Thomson, which took on 30 & 31 January & 1 February 2014 at the Rye Community Centre. This was a great show, thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended (we even had Hilary herself in the audience on the Saturday night)!

We currently have the dates Thursday 15th May – Saturday 17th May reserved for a show, and will be making a decision at our next committee meeting later on this month (February 2014) on whether to take these up and what the production will be.

Our World War 1 review – a joint venture with Icklesham Players – Directed by Del Smith, will now take place on Friday & Saturday 11&12 July in Icklesham, and Friday & Saturday 18 & 19 July in Rye. Audition dates will be set shortly – watch this space.

Janet Stott – has started poetry reading sessions at the Queens Head Pub, Landgate, Rye. A light hearted evening with all present taking part. For further information please ring Janet on 01797 224614.

We are very keen to have new members of all ages and abilities. Those members who are not fortunate to get parts in shows (or who might prefer to keep out of the limelight but still be involved) can usually help out back stage or front of house. We are a very friendly group and enjoy not only performing on stage, but we also have a good social side to the Society.
